With all the current media focus on CBT it may seem to psychotherapists and counsellors trained in other models that it is taking over the world!

Who is the course for?

This course is aimed at counsellors and psychotherapists who have an interest in extending the range of their therapeutic knowledge and skills. It aims to teach relevant skills of CBT in a way that respects the thinking and practice of other therapeutic orientations allowing therapists to adopt a Cognitive Behavioural Approach (CBA!)

Where is the course held?

The training is held in the Sussex village of Barcombe in a very modern extension to an 12th century church. The training room is warm and bright with beautiful views over the Downs. There is plenty of parking and disabled access. The post code is: BN8 5TS The venue is 3 miles from Cooksbridge railway station (one hour from Victoria) and 5.8 miles from Lewes station (again an hour from Victoria with slightly more fequent trains).

Here are some photos of the training venue and the views with the South Downs in the distance.

Course Content

We will review the history of CBT and its basic theoretical underpinning. Above all we will examine not only the differences but the similarities between CBT and other models of therapy. Many non CBT therapists are already doing CBT without knowing it!

This is the seven day course which Adrian has run successfully at The Wimbledon Guild, ICAP, Metanoia, Psychosynthesis Education Trust in London and in Birmingham, CPTPC University of Chester and at The Awareness Centre in London.

The course has been designed around the competencies outlined in the Department of Health document: 'The competencies required to deliver effective cognitive and behavioural therapy for people with depression and with anxiety disorders' developed by the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) Programme (Roth and Pilling 2007).  Many of the competencies outlined in the 'High Intensity Worker ' curriculum are also covered, as well as many that are not, such as working with people who somatise and those who have substance misuse problems.
